Rectangle

Rectangle is a project-based learning platform for K-12 schools, operated by Rectangle, LLC of Seattle, Washington. The application runs at https://app.rectangle.education. This page describes the complete product and how it works with Google Classroom.

What Rectangle does

Rectangle gives teachers and students one place to run classroom projects from assignment through grading:

• Teachers create standards-aligned projects with milestones and rubrics, assign them to their classrooms, review the work students submit, and grade it against milestone-based rubrics.
• Students join classrooms with a class code or through a roster their teacher imports, browse and work on assigned projects, collaborate in project groups, submit deliverables, and track their own progress.
• The platform records which academic standards each student has demonstrated, shows teachers standards-coverage gaps across a class, and keeps grades, feedback, and submissions organized as part of the school's record.

Rectangle launches for back-to-school 2026 and is free for classrooms. Student accounts are created only through a school — a teacher's class code or roster import — never through open public sign-up.

How Rectangle uses Google Classroom

Teachers can connect Google Classroom to import courses and rosters and export grades they choose to publish from Rectangle.

• Course and roster import. When a teacher connects Google Classroom and starts an import, Rectangle reads the teacher's Google Classroom course list and the rosters of the courses the teacher selects. For each student on a selected roster, Rectangle receives the student's name, email address, and Google Classroom profile identifier, and uses them to create the matching class and enrollments in Rectangle.
• Grade export. Only when a teacher explicitly initiates it, Rectangle creates coursework entries and grades in that teacher's Google Classroom course for the grades the teacher chooses to publish.
• Sign in with Google. Teachers and students may sign in to Rectangle with a Google Account, which shares the user's name and email address with Rectangle — never the password. Google sign-in is optional: email-and-password sign-in and teacher-issued class codes are always available.

Google Classroom connections are available only to teachers and school staff. Students never connect a Google Classroom account or grant Rectangle access to Google Classroom data. A teacher grants access through Google's standard consent screen and can disconnect at any time in Rectangle or from their Google Account permissions page.

Rectangle's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Rectangle uses Google user data solely to provide the roster-import, grade-export, and sign-in features described above. Rectangle does not use this data for advertising, does not sell it, and does not use it to develop, improve, or train generalized artificial-intelligence or machine-learning models.
