Copyright and DMCA Policy

Rectangle, LLC ("Rectangle," "we," "us," or "our") respects intellectual-property rights and expects users of the Rectangle learning platform (the "Service") to do the same. This Policy explains how to report content on the Service that you believe infringes your copyright, how a user whose content was removed can respond, and how we handle repeat infringement. This Policy is part of, and incorporated into, our Terms of Use.

1. Your responsibility for content you upload

You may upload or attach materials to the Service, including projects and attached resources such as files, images, documents, and links. You must have the rights needed to upload, use, display, and (if you choose to publish or make a project remixable) share those materials. Do not upload or attach content you do not have the right to use.

2. Reporting alleged copyright infringement (takedown notice)

If you believe content on the Service infringes a copyright you own or are authorized to act for, send a written notice to our Designated Agent (Section 5) that includes all of the following, consistent with 17 U.S.C. § 512(c)(3):

• A physical or electronic signature of a person authorized to act on behalf of the owner of the copyright that is allegedly infringed.
• Identification of the copyrighted work claimed to have been infringed, or, if multiple works are covered by a single notice, a representative list of those works.
• Identification of the material that is claimed to be infringing and that you want removed, with information reasonably sufficient to let us locate it, such as the project or page and a description of the material.
• Information reasonably sufficient to let us contact you, such as your name, address, telephone number, and email address.
• A statement that you have a good-faith belief that the use of the material in the manner complained of is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
• A statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information in your notice is accurate and that you are the copyright owner or are authorized to act on the owner's behalf.

When we receive a valid notice, we will respond expeditiously to remove or disable access to the material, and we will make reasonable efforts to notify the user who provided the material. We may provide a copy of the notice, including the personal information it contains, to that user.

3. Counter-notice

If your content was removed or disabled and you believe this was a mistake or misidentification, you may send our Designated Agent a written counter-notice that includes all of the following, consistent with 17 U.S.C. § 512(g):

• Your physical or electronic signature.
• Identification of the material that was removed or disabled and the location where it appeared before it was removed or disabled.
• A statement, under penalty of perjury, that you have a good-faith belief that the material was removed or disabled as a result of mistake or misidentification.
• Your name, address, and telephone number, and a statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the federal district court for the judicial district in which your address is located (or, if your address is outside the United States, any judicial district in which Rectangle may be found), and that you will accept service of process from the person who provided the original notice or that person's agent.

After we receive a valid counter-notice, we may restore the removed material in 10 to 14 business days unless the original complainant notifies us that they have filed a court action seeking to restrain the allegedly infringing activity.

4. Repeat infringers

Rectangle will, in appropriate circumstances and at its discretion, disable or remove content and terminate the accounts of users who are repeat infringers.

Under 17 U.S.C. § 512(f), any person who knowingly materially misrepresents that material is infringing, or that material was removed or disabled by mistake or misidentification, may be liable for damages. Consider whether the use may be authorized by law, including fair use, before submitting a notice.

7. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the "Effective date" above and post the new version.
